Unearthed Ceramics uses 100% green energy to power its garden studio in Preston. We have recently invested in a high energy efficient kiln which will have a significantly positive impact on reducing energy consumption.

Minimal clay/water waste measures are set up in all studio practises and all soft plastics are recycled.

We use water-activated tape, which is 100% recyclable and compostable. Made from FSC certified and EN13432 compliant recycled paper waste, it is acid free, with a non-toxic and odourless starch adhesive derived from potatoes.

Each lantern is wrapped in expandable kraft hex wrap, which is an 100% recyclable and compostable sustainable bubble wrap alternative, made from FSC certified paper.

We wanted to create a beautiful object that revealed the artists’ hands and intentions at every point of contact with the piece. This required a slow, deliberate process in which we worked together cohesively, guided by a common goal: to find and honour the quiet beauty found in the simple glow of candlelight.

Like a quiet candle, we put thought into the packaging which is all hand painted and also hand sewn on Japanese mulberry paper.

The Kindred lantern brings together two disciplines through a shared language of texture. Katrina Carling’s hand etched ceramics meet the warm translucence of Jo Schoof’s organic candle forms, creating a luminous object that is at once functional and aesthetic.
